The 2382 qualification is generally aimed at practising electricians who have relevant experience and is intended to ensure that they comply with the content, format and applications of the requirements for Electrical Installations, known as the 17th Edition Wiring Regulations BS 7671: June 2008. Having said that, the qualification is an ideal first qualification for those wishing to enter the electrical industry and is a comparatively easy qualification to obtain.
The 2382 qualification includes topics such as selection and erection of equipment, protection for safety and inspection and testing to meet the standards of the 17th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations. Successful students could progress to the next qualifications in Inspection, Testing, Design and Certification of Electrical Installations - City and Guilds 2392.
Students that achieved the City & Guilds Certificate in the Requirements for Electrical Installation (BS 7671: June 2001), known as the 2381, can undertake the update qualification which is the 2382-20.
Whilst candidates and practicing electricians may find the On Site Guide a useful revision and working tool, there are no questions within either 2382 test which specifically cover the On Site Guide
Entry Requirements for the 2382-20
It would be expected that learners would have achieved one of the following qualifications which covers the requirements for BS 7671 in order to be allowed to enter this 2382 ‘update’ qualification. Centres are expected to ensure that only suitably qualified candidates are entered onto the qualification and must hold a copy of each learners certificates for external verification monitoring.
* City & Guilds Level 3 Certificate in the Requirements for Electrical Installations BS 7671: June 2001 (2381), or
* City & Guilds Level 3 Certificate in Electrotechnical Technology Installation (Building and Structures) (2330-07), or
* City & Guilds Level 3 Certificate in Electrotechnical Technology Electrical Maintenance (2330-08), or
* City & Guilds Level 3 Certificate in Electrical Installation Part Two (2360) (from January 1st 2004 onwards only)
Entry Requirements for the 2382-10
There are no pre-entry requirements for the full City and Guilds 2382-10 qualification.
With the release of the 17th Edition Wiring Regulations, came the need for a new, relevant qualification.
The City and Guilds 2382 qualification is the qualification to obtain if you wish to demonstrate a good working knowledge of the use and application of the 17th Edition Wiring Regulations.
The City and Guilds 2382 exam takes the form of a multiple choice online exam, using the City and Guilds GOLA interface, which makes obtaining the qualification through home study a very convenient and sensible option.
